Rev. Dr. Robert Garwig 503-639-3273 rgarwig@calvinpresbyterian.org
|
The Rev. Dr. Robert A. "Bob"
Garwig has been a Presbyterian pastor for over 26 years. He has
earned degrees from The Ohio State University, Princeton Theological
Seminary, and McCormick Theological Seminary. Having a heart for
mission and evangelism, Bob has redeveloped churches in Ohio, North
Carolina, Texas, and Detroit, Michigan. He is founding pastor of
Clanton Presbyterian Church, an African-American congregation in
Charlotte, North Carolina.
"Jesus Christ is the basis of my
life. The joy, healing, strength, insight and wisdom I receive from
my Savior is the invaluable result of a simple connection of faith.
Through prayer, worship, fellowship and service to others, I have
built my faith in Jesus and seen miracles happen because of Him."
"Living a blessed life is
realizing that it is more blessed to give than to receive. As we
learn to give and to share our souls as well as what we have stored,
our vitality increases and the people around us become fruitful
vines and olive shoots around our tables."
Bob enjoys reading, baseball,
gardening, keeping up with his grown children (Andy, of Austin,
Texas and Gwen, of Venice, California). He is married to Laura
Mason, an alumna of the University of Michigan and the Detroit
School of Law. Laura was most recently in private practice in Grosse
Pointe Farms, Michigan. Bob and Laura have a golden
retriever, Georgia. Bob has also completed marathons in Charlotte;
Houston; Virginia Beach, VA; Detroit and Boston.

Brian Craker 503-639-3273 bcraker@calvinpresbyterian.org
|
In December, Pastor Brian Craker (pronounced Crā-kĕr) joined Calvin Presbyterian as our Associate Pastor-Stated Supply. As “Stated Supply”, Brian will serve in a temporary pastoral capacity until Calvin is ready to begin a search for a permanent Associate Pastor. The position is 3/4 time, and his main duties will include congregational care, worship leadership, and ministry to older adults. Brian was raised in the California, living in both the Los Angeles area as well as in Redding before moving to Portland in 1996. In 2000 he graduated from Multnomah Bible College (now Multnomah University) with a dual degree in Bible/Theology and Speech Communications. His love for the Pacific Northwest kept him close by for his seminary work, and in 2008 he graduated from George Fox University with his Masters of Divinity, as well as completing his requirements for ordination in the PC(USA). Brian first began serving in ministry in 1993, when he was asked to be the youth intern to the middle school at his church in Redding. When Brian moved to Portland in 1996, he began his 8 year service of leading the youth ministry at Lake Grove Presbyterian in Lake Oswego, along side his wife Alison. In 2004, Brian left Lake Grove to do his pastoral internship at Sherwood Presbyterian Fellowship. He returned to ministry again in August of 2008 at Lake Grove doing congregational care for a pastor on sabbatical before receiving his first pastoral call as Associate Pastor here at Calvin. Brian’s favorite Biblical passage is Psalm 23. “My life’s journey has not always been an easy one, and I’ve had to suffer through a number of family losses during my young life. One of the reasons that my faith in the Lord is so strong is because I have experienced the Lord walking with me through my valleys of the ‘shadow of death.’ I’ve experienced that divine comfort that the Lord provides through the Holy Spirit and through his people of the Church, and my life and my ministry have been so richly blessed…truly ‘my cup runs over.’ It has shaped how I view my life and the ministry God has called me to, as well as my desire to serve as the hands and feet of Christ. Brian and Alison were married in 1997, and they have a son Tyler (1 yr. this January) and a dog Toby. Hobbies and interests for Brian include sports (especially football and basketball), working with computers, travel, watching movies, and DJ’ing parties and weddings with his brother-in-law Chris. |

Angela Mansfield 503-639-3273 amansfield@calvinpresbyterian.org
|
Angela Mansfield grew up at the beach in North County San Diego, where she began attending church as a high school student. She went to Los Angeles for undergrad at Occidental College as a Psychology major, Religious Studies minor. Through the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at Occidental, Angela began to study the Bible and experienced the depth of Christian community. After college, Angela worked for 4 years as a 401(k) Education & Enrollment Specialist and began volunteering with the High School ministry at Glendale Presbyterian Church. At that point, Angela recognized that God was calling her into full-time ministry, so she quit my job to attend Fuller Theological Seminary. Angela earned her Master of Divinity and completed all of the requirements for Ordination in the PC(USA), including a chaplaincy internship at Legacy Emanuel Hospital, which is what brought her to Portland- “I fell in love with this city after spending a summer here. So, I moved to Portland in June of ‘06- no job in hand, just a sense that God wanted me here. About a week after my arrival, I saw Calvin's job posted, and the rest is history!” “One of my favorite stories of Jesus is in Mark 2, when the four men come carrying their paralyzed friend to Jesus for healing. Upon finding the house too crowded to reach him, they heft their friend onto the roof, dig through it and proceed to lower their friend to Jesus’ feet. This is amazing to me! What persistence, what love, what faith these friends possess! And Jesus recognizes it too. I love that God puts us in community so that we can carry one another and be carried when we can’t walk to Jesus’ feet ourselves. It’s a gift to share life with others.” For fun, Angela likes to be active with her friends, travel (especially to Southern California to see family and friends), read, watch movies, watch NCIS on Tuesdays, play on Facebook, and sing. |
